Daniel Chambo recommends that workshop participants bring a yoga mat and/or cushion. There is no denying the profound effect music can have on our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Throughout human history we have used music and sound to evoke, to honor, and to express the full range of human experience, from our deepest joys to our greatest grief. Just by listening to a certain song, we can be transported to another time and place, discover deep feelings within numbness, or just find the strength to get through another day. Likewise, it is no secret that our breath is also closely linked to our state of being. Being both intentional and auto-nomic, the breath can be a powerful link between our waking mind and the deeper levels of consciousness. Often the effects of music and breath seem to just happen to us: we start crying when a song comes on the radio; we get nervous and breathing gets shallow. But what would happen if we approached both these modalities with intention and curiosity? In this highly experiential workshop, we will work with simple breath and sounding practices that can help tune our ears to the subtle, ever changing tapestry of feelings, emotions, and desires flowing through our inner world, that is often drowned out by the hubbub of everyday life. With ample time for experimentation and reflection, guided by the feelings and sensations that arise as we listen and sing, we will discover how music and breath can serve as a craft to travel through the realms of our consciousness, opening up a space for healing and deeper knowledge of the Self.

BIO: Daniel Chambo is a musician and facilitator based in Chapel Hill, NC.  Starting at age 10, he began a lifelong love affair with music and its ability to cut right to the emotional heart of an experience, transcending language, opinions, and traditions. For over 25 years he has walked a winding path through studies of American Jazz, traditional Celtic music, North Indian Classical music, and Nada yoga (yoga of sound). Combined with a BA in Experiential Education and Music, well over a decade of teaching in wilderness and experiential settings, and extensive studies in meditation, somatic inquiry, and emotional release..Whether on bamboo flute, saxophone, or voice, his deeply emotional and highly intuitive approach helps participants move deeper into their own authentic experience.
